Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed

Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives International Arbitration Centre (MIAC) on 27 February 2025. As CEO, she is responsible for the overall management and administration of MIAC, as well as the implementation of the Arbitration Act and related regulations.

Prior to this role, Zeeniya served as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development from January 2024 to December 2024. She also held the position of Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure from January 2019 to January 2024.

Zeeniya began her career as an Assistant Architect at the Ministry of Construction and Public Infrastructure in 2006. She was promoted to Senior Architect and served in that capacity from 2008 to 2012. She subsequently held the position of Deputy Director General at the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure from 2012 to 2019.

In addition to her government service, Zeeniya contributed to various national bodies. She was a member of the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and a frequent guest lecturer, panelist and part-time lecturer as well. She was a member of the Construction Sector Council from 2021 to 2024, and served on the National Tender Board from 2008 to 2011 and again from 2013 to 2015.

Zeeniya was honored with the Rehendhi Award in 2021 in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) category for her contributions to the field.

A professional architect by training, she holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Science from Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Western Australia. She also holds a Diploma in Commercial Arbitration from the Institute for the Development of Commercial Law & Practice in Sri Lanka.
