On 9 November 2021, the Maldives International Arbitration Centre conducted a one-day seminar for judges and registrars of courts as part of MIAC’s initiative to promote awareness about arbitration.  

The curriculum for the seminar covered the role of courts and judges in matters of arbitration where focus was entailed to the Maldivian Arbitration Act.  

The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Francis Xavier SC FCIArb, the immediate past Global President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also the Regional Head of the Dispute Resolution Group at Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP and is recognized as a leading dispute lawyer. Francis specializes in aviation law and is actively involved in cross-border commercial disputes in the area of corporate banking, property, financial and investment related claims. Additionally, he has appeared as counsel and has acted as arbitrator (both party appointed and presiding) in a large number of arbitrations (both ad hoc and administered arbitrations by ICSID, ICC, SIAC, AIAC, HKAIC, BANI and the Permanent Court of Arbitration).
