The Maldives International Arbitration Centre (MIAC), in collaboration with the Maldives Olympic Committee, is pleased to invite your association to participate in a Sports Arbitration Conference to be held in Malé.
The Maldives Sports Act (Act No. 30/2015) provides a legal basis for the resolution of sports-related disputes through arbitration. In particular, where an agreement between the parties provides that disputes arising between persons involved in the field of sports in the Maldives shall be resolved by arbitration, such disputes are to be submitted to the arbitral forum specified in that agreement.
Sports arbitration provides a specialised, efficient and consistent means of resolving disputes arising within the sporting sector. However, there remains a need to develop greater awareness and understanding of sports arbitration in the Maldives. There is also a need for a proper legal framework, which provides for arbitral forums and the practical process for referring and resolving sports-related disputes through arbitration.
Against this background, MIAC is organising this one-day programme to familiarise key stakeholders in the sporting sector with sports arbitration and its potential role in resolving sports-related disputes. The conference will also provide an opportunity for participants to engage with international experts and exchange views on the effective development and implementation of sports arbitration in the Maldives.
